Dentures in Merrick, NY

Dentures replace missing teeth with a comfortable, natural-looking set you can rely on when you eat, speak and smile. At Modern Dental Hub in Merrick, our dentists fit full and partial dentures, as well as implant-retained options, and stay with you through the adjustment visits until the fit feels right.

Who dentures can help

Dentures suit patients who have lost several or all of their teeth and want a non-surgical way to replace them. You may be a good candidate if you:

  • have lost all the teeth in your upper jaw, lower jaw or both
  • are missing several teeth in different parts of the mouth, where a bridge would not reach
  • are not ready for, or not a candidate for, dental implants
  • already wear a denture that has become loose, worn or uncomfortable

Dentures are not the only route. If you are missing one tooth or a few in a row and the neighbors are strong, a fixed dental bridge may serve you better; if you want teeth that never move and help preserve the jawbone, dental implants or an implant-retained denture are worth discussing.

What dentures are

A denture is a removable appliance that replaces missing teeth and some of the surrounding gum tissue. Our dentists offer:

  • Full dentures, which replace all the teeth in one jaw. They are made after the gums have healed from any extractions, or as an immediate denture placed the same day the last teeth are removed.
  • Partial dentures, which replace some teeth and clip onto the remaining natural teeth with small clasps or precision attachments. They keep your other teeth from shifting and fill several gaps at once.
  • Implant-retained dentures, which snap onto two or more dental implants. They stay firmly in place while you eat and speak yet can be removed for cleaning, and the implants help slow bone loss in the jaw.

What to expect

A well-made denture restores your ability to chew a wide range of foods, supports your lips and cheeks and gives you a smile you are comfortable showing. Expect an adjustment period: new dentures feel bulky for the first week or two, speech takes a little practice, you may produce more saliva and a few sore spots are common while the gums adapt. Because the gums and bone change shape slowly over time, most dentures need relining every few years and replacing after roughly five to ten years. Results vary; an implant-retained denture stays stable for longer because it does not depend on the gum ridge for support.

How it works, step by step

  1. Consultation and exam. We examine your mouth, take digital X-rays or a 3D scan and discuss which type of denture fits your needs and budget, including any extractions or implants that need to come first.

  2. Impressions and measurements. We take precise impressions of your gums and remaining teeth and record how your jaws meet so the denture sits correctly and your bite is balanced.

  3. Try-in. You try a wax version of the denture so we can check the fit, the bite and how the teeth look when you smile and speak.

  4. Delivery. The finished denture is fitted and adjusted, and we show you how to insert, remove and clean it.

  5. Adjustment visits. Over the following weeks we smooth any sore spots and fine-tune the fit until the denture feels like part of you.

Aftercare and recovery

  • Wear the denture as instructed in the first days so your gums adapt and we can find any pressure points.
  • Start with soft foods cut into small pieces and chew on both sides at once to keep the denture steady.
  • Rinse the denture after meals and brush it daily with a soft brush and a denture cleaner rather than toothpaste, which can scratch it.
  • Take the denture out at night unless we tell you otherwise, and soak it so it does not dry out and warp.
  • Call us for an adjustment rather than putting up with a rubbing spot, and never try to repair a denture at home.
  • Keep regular check-ups so we can assess the fit, check your gums and spot the need for a reline early.

Cost, insurance and payment

The cost depends on the type of denture, the materials, whether extractions or implants are part of the plan and whether an immediate denture is needed. We explain the full cost after your exam and before any treatment begins.

We accept 24 insurance plans, and dentures are a common prosthetic benefit; coverage should be verified with the office before treatment. Flexible payment options are available for patients without insurance. See the insurance plans we accept and our payment options, or call the office to discuss arrangements.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to get dentures?

A conventional denture usually takes several appointments over a few weeks for impressions, a try-in and delivery. If teeth need to be extracted first, an immediate denture can be placed the same day so you are not without teeth, with a final denture or reline after the gums heal.

Will my dentures look natural?

Yes. We choose tooth shades and shapes that suit your face and age and arrange them individually rather than in a uniform row. Most people around you will not know you wear a denture.

Will I be able to eat normally?

Within a few weeks most patients eat a wide range of foods. Very hard, sticky or tough foods take practice.

How often do dentures need adjusting or replacing?

Your gums and jawbone change shape gradually, so a denture that fit well at first can loosen over time. Most need a reline every few years and replacement after roughly five to ten years.

What is an implant-retained denture?

It is a denture that snaps onto two or more dental implants placed in the jaw. It stays put while you eat and speak, helps preserve the bone and can still be removed for cleaning.
